Rina Sawayama follows her triumphant This Hell with the next cut from her September expected Hold the Girl album. The latest track, Catch Me In The Air, sees Rina collaborate with producers Stuart Price (Madonna, Pet Shop Boys) and Clarence Clarity. We can confirm that Rina is definitely deserving of big pop girl status after yet another anthem.
The singer shares: “I wrote Catch Me In The Air across 2020-2021, at a time when a lot of people around me were having children or thinking of having children.” Rina adds: “The first verse of CMITA is from a parents perspective, second verse from the child’s. I love being at an age where I can see from both perspectives… Anyway I’m so proud of this song and where our relationship is at. The bridge/middle 8 and outro of the song is how I feel about our relationship now.” Like the best pop tracks, this draws on its creator’s personal experience and you can really feel the emotion in Rina’s powerful lyrical delivery.
The full tracklist for Hold the Girl has yet to be released but expect thirteen tracks including Catch Me in the Air and This Hell to make up part of its 46:00 minute runtime. You will be able to hear the full LP on the 2nd of September 2022.
