Rina Sawayama Debuts Euphoric Pop Anthem ‘This Hell’, Announces Album ‘Hold the Girl’ for September

“I wanted to write a western pop song that celebrated COMMUNITY and LOVE in a time where the world seemed hellish. This Hell is better with you,” Rina Sawayama shares as she releases new single This Hell. The defiant pop banger serves as the lead single of Rina’s scheduled Hold the Girl album which arrives September 2nd.

This Hell was written with Paul Epworth and Lauren Aquilina, Epworth and Clarence Clarity also produce. Rina shares how she drew inspiration from country music for her latest single: “I had so much fun writing “This Hell.” The past couple of years I’ve been listening to lots of female country singers and wanted to write a euphoric and tongue-in-cheek country-pop song. Country music at its core to me represents comfort, brilliant storytelling and authentic expression of the writer’s reality. I’ve been dreaming of working with Paul Epworth my entire career so I knew it was meant to be when we finished this song in a day. I put in as many iconic pop culture moments as I can, but the song is more than that.

The country elements can be felt in the opening guitar riffs before the track veers down a more contemporary pop route. “This hell is better with you / We’re burning up together / Baby, that makes two / ‘Cause the Devil’s wearing Prada / And loves a little drama, ooh-ooh / This hell is better with you…” Rina sings on the euphoric chorus accompanied by grand, lavish pop production.
