Music Legend Dana Gillespie Reveals ‘Spent the Day in Bed’, Upcoming Marc Almond Produced Album ‘First Love’

Dana Gillespie recently took to the stage in microstate San Marino as part of Una Voce Per San Marino, singing the unexpectedly pleasant AI produced number The Last Polar Bear. Now the star redirects attention to slightly more organic musical productions with her cover of Morrisey’s Spent the Day in Bed. The single will feature on the British folk, blues and pop legend’s upcoming covers album First Love.

Dana’s label Fretsore Records shares: “The album FIRST LOVE features Dana’s unique interpretations of songs by Bowie, Dylan, Morrissey, Marc Almond, Leonard Cohen, Lana Del Rey, Stevie Nicks, Green Day as well as a new recording of her own composition First Love.”

It continues: “The album was produced by MARC ALMOND and TRIS PENNA and it was recorded in Dean Street Studios with musicians from Dana’s band: Dom Stockbridge (guitars), Harry Whitty (bass guitar, trumpet), Evan Jenkins (Drums) and MD Matt Gest (keys/piano).”

The presence of the great Marc Almond on production duty can be felt in the melancholic pop tones that shimmer through Dana’s version of Spent the Day in Bed. The single receives a limited edition black and clear orange 7″ vinyl in an exclusive picture sleeve designed by Morrissey which you can order here.

Morrisey shares: “It’s incredible, where do I start?” he says. “Dana’s ‘Spent’ is very special, and I don’t say that ‘just because…’ it’s so well done and very well structured musically and that guitar solo is magnificent.  Every vocal nuance is full of mischief and maverick free spirit … which, really, is typical Dana.  It’s an inspiring version for me, and really so much better than the original. It’s a triumph”.  We have to agree.
