There is a real late nineties, early noughties influence shimmering from Liam Payne’s impressive new single, Teardrops. The British pop talent makes a welcome return to the musical landscape since his 2019 album debut LP1 and brings some interesting collaborators on board with him. The new single is written with Jamie Scott and NSYNC star JC Chasez.
Liam says of the single: “Teardrops is about the vulnerability of heartbreak and the challenge of overcoming those moments. This song marks the start of a new beginning, there’s lots more to come in 2024.” If this is a taster for the sonic direction that Liam is navigating with his new album then it bodes well for the future.
The chorus sees Liam croon: “Teardrops are fallin’ down your face again / ‘Cause I don’t know how to love you when / I am broken too / Teardrops are fallin…'” against anthemic production. The sound is grand and epic pop – something that sounds great on Liam.
