Ukraine’s Max Barskih continues to showcase his musical range, following last month’s powerhouse electronic pop banger Rich with the powerful, poignant Soldier. The track is taken from filmmaker Alan Badoev’s documentary about the war, The Hardest Hour.
Max shares: “I wrote the song Soldier almost at the same time as the song “There Will Be Spring”… This track is a call to the world on behalf of all Ukrainians. It tells the story of a people who woke up in the morning and found themselves at war. May Soldier reminds each of us that we are on our own land. And each of us must contribute to the resistance, because here are our roots and here is our home.”
The lyrics see Max emote: “I’m a soldier / No time to sleep / On the front line / Protecting families / I’m a soldier / No tears to cry / Me and my people / We fight for life…” in the powerful lyrics which capture the reality for countless Ukrainians. The track comes accompanied by a video filmed at Max’s Kyiv concert at the Palace of Sports.
The upcoming film from director Badoev and 1+1 Ukraine will appear on the big screen already in February 2024. The documentary was created from 200 hours of chronicling the survival, resistance and life of Ukrainians during the first months of the full-scale invasion.
