Kelis Returns With First Solo Single in Seven Years ‘Midnight Snacks’

It is hard to believe that Kelis hasn’t released any solo music since 2014’s Food album, but now the singer embarks on a new musical chapter with her first single in seven years, Midnight Snacks. The track is released through BMG and could potentially be the first taste of a new album from the New York born performer.

Kelis co-writes with Adrian Francis, Curtis James, Mark Waxkirsch and Sam Tsang with production from The FaNaTiX. She cites the track was inspired the connectivity which she sees between food and sex, noting: “I heard the beat, thought it was dope, and the first thing that came to mind was ‘Midnight Snacks. I was like, ‘It makes you feel like a midnight snack!’ And that was it. It’s funny to me, but I like the fact that you can take sex and food, and you can put these two things together, and they’re totally interchangeable. I love that.”

Kelis has made no secret of her culinary passions: graduating from Le Cordon Bleu culinary school, releasing a cookbook, launching a sauce line, and appearing on Netflix’s Cooked with Cannabis. She still found time to appear as The Daisy on the UK’s version of The Masked Singer too thankfully.

We’re delighted to see Kelis return to the world of music with hopefully a new album on the horizon.
