Slovenian pop talent Ben Dolic built up a strong international fanbase when he was confirmed as Germany’s 2020 Eurovision entrant, representing the nation with the stellar Violent Thing. The singer returns with the equally impressive Stuck in My Mind, a track crafted by musical talents that have experience working with the likes of Michael Jackson, Lizzo, One Direction and HRVY.
Ben shares some details about the inspiration behind the new song: ‘Stuck in My Mind is about an internal battle where you realise what you had before may not have been the best for you. The relationship was toxic, but you’re still attached to some of the happy moments that came with it.’
He adds: ‘The song came really unexpectedly during a writing camp in Brighton. Once we had the demo we knew we had to release it, but last year, like everyone, our circumstances changed. We finished the song over Zoom during lockdown and I had to learn how to record the vocals by myself. It was a tough process, but it was a good experience to learn new skills. I’m so excited to release Stuck in My Mind, my fans have been really patient with me and I’m so glad to finally share this with them.’
The track sees Ben’s charismatic vocal shine against a funk-flavoured bassline, but the song veers into stripped back R&B pop centric territory between the choruses. It’s a stellar composition that fans of Violent Thing will be quick to fall in love with.
