We’re going a little bit rockier than normal, but we couldn’t resist the charms of Oli Barton & The Movement and their cover of Billie Eilish’s modern pop classic Bad Guy. The London-based indie rockers add another unique spin to the track by combining it with Slowthai’s Doorman.
Like all the best cover versions, Oli and co. provide an inventive, fresh take on Bad Guy, turning it into a British indie-pop anthem thanks to Oli’s distinctive emotive vocals and The Movement’s high impact instrumentation. Praise should also go to production of the studio-filmed video which manages to capture the dynamic, fiery energy of a live performance. The live session gains a further edge when it veers into a rendition of Doorman – one that manages to retain that buoyant energy, enthusiasm, and swagger of the band’s take on Bad Guy.
Oli Barton & The Movement have been carving out an impressive name for themselves supporting big acts like Starsailor and gaining the attention of the BBC. They released their debut single Photograph in 2016, following this with dirty pop anthem Kinky. The band released their most recent EP How Would I Know in 2018.
