Celebrating Our Top Songs From French Pop Superstar M Pokora

The French have fantastic taste in pop music – need we mention pop legends such as Mylène Farmer,
Vanessa Paradis, Jennifer, Christophe Willem, or Kendji Girac. One such creative that deserves additional love outside his home country is M Pokora. The star has nine studio albums to his name and countless pop hits across Europe released in a mix of French and English.

Starting out in France’s third season of Popstars, Matt Pokora secured a position in R&B flavoured boyband Linkup who hit the top of French charts with debut single Mon Étoile. UK fans may remember the band from their bilingual collaboration with Blue which saw the release of international single You & Me Bubblin. Matt’s success would outlast the band, navigating a successful solo career that has seen the release of nine solo albums which have helped Matt consistently top the charts. Navigating predominantly in the French-language music landscape, Matt has also dabbled in a number of successful English language recordings including his stellar third solo album MP3, since the album the star has dabbled in additional English language tracks including re-releasing his follow-up album Mise à jour with an English language version dubbed Updated.

Matt has gone on to drop further successful albums including the majestic slick pop excellence of R.E.D. (Rythmes Extrêmement Dangereux), Claude François tribute album My Way, and the triple platinum smash Pyramide. Matt, who styles himself as M Pokora, celebrated his most recent studio album in 2022, titled Épicentre, and currently supports the album through an international tour and festival dates.

We’ve taken a dive into the French hunk’s pop career to pick out some of our highlights of his many tracks – we should add that there are far more than those contained on this list. What you will see is an artist brimming in charisma and slick pop sensibilities, who is destined to keep building on his steadily increasing international success.

Showbiz (The Battle) – Matt’s debut solo single, a top ten hit in France blends slick R&B and hip hop whilst asserting the star’s impressive stage presence.

Oh la la la (Sexy Miss) – Bringing Caribbean pop flavours into the fold, Matt’s track from his Player album further showcases the star’s musical versatility.

It’s Alright (with Ricky Martin) – Latin pop is on the menu for It’s Alright featuring Puerto Rican superstar Ricky Martin. Matt’s French language contributions shine on this international banger.

Dangerous (with Timbaland & Sebastian) – Moving into the world of English language pop, M Pokora’s MP3 album is an underrated treat. The star recruited Timbaland and Sebastian for this high-spec pop cut that delivers icy cool and swagger.

Catch Me If You Can – Noughties R&B pop has never sounded this suave and Matt brings attitude and vocal prestige to this further Timbaland production.

Finally Found Ya – Taken from Matt’s English language version of his Mise À Jour album, Updated, Finally Found Ya is a silky smooth R&B ballad that serves elegance and romanticism aplenty.

Mr & Mrs Smith (Feat Eva Simons) – An early 2010s electronic pop gem that stands the test of time thanks to the vocal pairing of Matt and collaborator Eva Simons.

Juste un instant – The opening track from the À La Poursuite Du Bonheur album is a carefree, breezy single that showcases further range to Matt’s musical output with the star able to shine on a more laid-back romantic number like this.

Danse sur ma musique – A high energy EDM banger that sees M Pokora deliver a sense of cool and suave energy. This is a standout from Matt’s À La Poursuite Du Bonheur album.

Envole-moi (with TAL) – This powerhouse duet with Israeli-French musician TAL sees both singers soar against dramatic pop beats and understandably was a Top 5 hit in France.

Cette année-là – There are a lot of numbers to enjoy on M Pokora’s My Way album including this funk-inspired take on Four Seasons hit December 1963.

Belles! Belles! Belles! – Another charming cut from the My Way album sees Matt take on Claude Francois’ version of The Everly Brothers’ hit Made for Love.

Avant Nous – Matt channels Prince-inspired electronic funk with this cut from his R.E.D. album, which happens to be one of our standouts of his French language LPs.

Voir la nuit s’emballer – Another number brimming in swagger and cool from the R.E.D. sees Matt deliver dance-pop inspired soul music in this energetic sing-a-long number. Like many of the cuts on the album, there’s an influence of legends from The Jacksons to Prince in the album’s soul and attitude.

Woohoo – An uptempo slice of contemporary pop in which Matt’s vocals glide along addictive pop hooks and slick contemporary production.

On danse – With backing from a gospel chorus, Oh danse is transcendent high energy pop that rightfully saw Matt gain a Top 20 hit in his native France with the single.

Ouh Na Na – Matt delivers sex-appeal and R&B pop swagger on the English language version of this track from his Pyramide album. For those of us hoping for a new English language album from Matt, this shows that the star is still keen to record in the language.

Two Left Feet – Another danceable cut from Matt’s Pyramide album that shines as a stellar example of the elegantly cool pop that M Pokora does so well.

Alter Ego – Impressive vocals underpin this ambitious number from M Pokora’s Pyramide album and whilst not released as a single, could undoubtedly have shined as one.

Tombé – A stripped back hit in which Matt sells the lyrical narrative with a sense of conviction and heart. Vocals bouncing along an emotive guitar backing helps this one shine.

Les planètes – This cosmic slice of pop excellence was a deserved hit for M Pokora and unsurprisingly is his second most streamed track on Spotify.

Fahrenheit – This album track from Matt’s Epicentre album is a high-energy electronic pop gem that sees the singer croon about fighting off temptation against Tristan Salvati’s pounding production.

Rien d’impossible – This number sings of strength fighting over adversity, drawing attention to overcoming hardship. Matt sings with conviction and passion atop the dramatic musical accompaniement.

Je te donne (with Jennifer) – Matt contributes both English and French lyrics to this collaboration with Jennifer, an uptempo pop gem that came from the star’s album No. 9.
