Music: Cher Releases Spanish Language Cover of ABBA’s ‘Chiquitita’

Cher’s career found further success after a small but memorable role in Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again, which also prompted the release of her ABBA cover album Dancing Queen. The singer has been teasing the long-awaited follow up to the album with a second ABBA inspired collection. The first taste of the upcoming album is a Spanish language version of Chiquitita which has been released to raise donations for UNICEF.

Cher previously covered the track in English on the first Dancing Queen collection. She has also confirmed the following tracks for her sophomore cover album:

  • When All Is Said and Done
  • Chiquitita en Español
  • Take a Chance on Me
  • I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do
  • Super Trouper
  • Voulez Vous
  • And two yet unannounced tracks – we’re praying for Angel Eyes and Kisses of Fire.

The track is a nice throwback to ABBA’s original release of Chiquitita in 1979. It was featured in a 1979 UNICEF charity event, the Music for UNICEF Concert, broadcast worldwide from the United Nations General Assembly. As a direct result of this event, ABBA donated half of all royalties from the song to UNICEF.
