Russia’s Eurovision entry Sergey Lazarev may not have taken home the crown last weekend, but he did take home our hearts. Despite topping the audience vote, the Russian heartthrob was pipped to the post by Ukraine’s entry. However, Sergey is sure to benefit from the recent exposure after being introduced to new fans all around the globe.
We’re also drawn to Sergey not just for that high octane performance of You Are the Only One, but for his refusal to accept his own nation’s draconian anti-gay politics. If that’s not a cause for celebration then we don’t know what is.
