Sharon Needles always impresses with her musical output – from the spooky camp of her debut PG-13 to the darker pop worlds of Taxidermy and Battle Axe. Now the drag titan unveils her latest musical offering, Absolute Zero, her latest album due for a July 22nd release through PEG Records/Warner Music Group/ADA. The single of the same name also arrives and showcases Sharon’s delightful disco sound.
Sharon showcases her impressive vocal chops against smooth dance-centred production from Tomas Costanza. On the chorus, the Drag Race winner croons “I’m 300 below / Welcome to absolute zero / Now we’re dead as disco / Welcome to absolute zero…” whilst performing in a hospital set music video.
With regards to the video, Sharon notes: “In the summer of 2020 when everyone was losing their minds, I happened to lose my heart. This video is a testament to the universal broken heartedness. Whether feeling lost in space or trapped in the twilight zone this is a personal Dear John letter that reads to the human condition of being emotionally destroyed.”
On the album Absolute Zero, Sharon shares her influences including disco goddess Amanda Lear and genre pioneer Cerrone. As well as this Eurodisco influence, Sharon takes on numbers such as Blue Oyster Cult’s (Don’t Fear) The Reaper as part of the seven song tracklist.
