Billy Porter begins a new musical chapter with the release of new single Children – a rousing nineties house flavoured dance anthem. The track features production from The Invisible Men, Justin Tranter, Eren Cannata, Simone Torres and Daniel Crean, who alongside Billy’s fierce vocal turns help it shine as a lavish queer pop gem.
Jade Thirlwall, Jon Shave and MNEK write the track which is expected to be the first taste of Billy’s upcoming studio album released through Island Records/Republic. With a belting pre-chorus, Children sees Billy sing of empowering the youth in lyrics such as “I know times are hard / You’ll get thru it baby / Mean it from the heart / You’re not losing the fight / Love will make it alright / Cos i’ve Been there done that, worn that dress, so you know mama knows it best.” The track is a perfect fit for Billy whose brand of queer-centred empowerment is quickly making him a household name.
Billy shared “It’s a song that is inspired by my life and everything I’ve gone through to get here.” He continues “Music is my first love, I grew up singing in the church. When I first put out commercial music in 1997, the industry was not ready for all this Black Boy Joy! But luckily the world has caught up. I could not be more thrilled to entrust this next chapter of my music career to the Island/Republic team. Make way children! Daddy’s back.”
