Rising singer-songwriter Javi tackles one of Sade’s most iconic tracks with his new take on Cherish the Day, which was originally released on 1992 album Love Deluxe. Javi packs the track with an evocative sensuality and charisma, something further channelled in the luscious shimmer of the accompanying music video.
Working with producer Malcolm Fong, Javi’s rendition sees the singer’s smooth falsetto blend with Latin flavoured production for truly elegant results. The singer has a strong connection with the Sade original with it being one of the few vocal records that his parents played in the house. Javi shares: “I remember hearing Sade for the first time and thinking ‘This is what heaven must sound like.’ I stole the album from Dad, and the band has been a major inspiration ever since.”
As the word longs for new Sade music, Javi makes the wait slightly easier with his fresh and inventive take on the band’s classic hit. Fans of Javi’s take on Cherish the Day should also seek out some of the singer’s previous releases such as his Red Lights EP.
