Rising pop talent Joelle celebrates the release of the official video for his debut single Rather Be Lonely. The R&B infused pop track tackles the feeling of acceptance of being alone, rather than being in a non-meaningful relationship. The track is produced by Culture Fix favourite GESS and has gone on to amass near nine-thousand streams in its short release window.
Joelle told us a little about the inspiration and creative process behind the track: “Someone who I really loved from my past who I always wanted to reconcile with, randomly face-timed me. And I thought it was the start of something new. Literally the next day the situation changed. It was one of those situations where you realize you became the rebound. I was so disappointed and angry, I immediately hit up a producer that I knew, GESS, who is AMAZING and an artist as well. We talked specifics and within that month I went into the studio, I was so nervous and wasn’t sure how it would go, but we wrote ‘Rather Be Lonely’ that day.”
On the track’s meaning, he notes: “It is a song that overall says, I would “Rather Be Lonely” than be with you. Than to be with someone, who does not value me and won’t give me what I know I deserve.” With emotive subject matter, elegant R&B production with bubbling synths, and Joelle’s defiant, charismatic vocals, Rather Be Lonely is a massively impressive debut from an exciting new pop talent.
Rather Be Lonely is due to feature on Joelle’s upcoming About You EP. Connect with him here.
