ZAYN Reveals ‘Konnakol’ Album with New Single ‘Die For Me’

ZAYN truly impressed with his album Room Under the Stairs, a stripped back rootsy album that showcased a different side to the musician. He marks a shift back to his Pop-R&B roots with new single Die For Me and his freshly announced album Konnakol, which arrives on the 17th of April.

ZAYN shares: “It’s that time again, I have been lucky enough to make a fifth studio album,” He continues “Konnakol in its definition is the act of creating percussive sounds with one’s voice but what it means to me lies somewhere much deeper. It is a sound that holds the reverberation of a time before words existed. I have always drawn on my heritage for inspiration since I first started making my own music, this album is a development of that understanding, knowing more now than ever, who I am, where I come from and where I intend to go.”

Album release notes are quick to compare the sound of Konnakol to that of ZAYN’s debut album Mind of Mine. The accompanying message shares: “KONNAKOL, ZAYN’s fifth studio album, is his most culturally inspired project to date. The pop-forward album expands on the sound fans first heard on his record-breaking debut studio album, Mind of Mine. KONNAKOL in its definition is the act of creating percussive sounds with one’s voice but what it means to ZAYN lies somewhere much deeper. It is a sound that holds the reverberation of a time before words existed. Drawing on his own heritage for inspiration, this album is a development of that understanding, knowing more now than ever, who he is, where he comes from and where he intends to go.”

Pop-forward sounds good to us, especially if the LP gives us moments like Pillowtalk, Like I Would and TiO. Die For Me certainly promises great things for the album ahead. The track was produced and written in 2022 by James Essien, along with songwriters Anna Linnea (NEA) and Victor Thell. It was originally rumoured to be a 2014 demo from the Four era before being updated for ZAYN’s solo work.

ZAYN has just announced the Konnakol tour. Dates of which you can see below. Pre-order the album here.
