ZAYN delighted fans with Die For Me, one of his strongest tracks in recent years and one that signalled great things for his upcoming studio album, KONNAKOL. The British singer-songwriter now reveals the second taste of the 17th April scheduled album, the seductive pop jam Sideways.
ZAYN co-wrote the reflective number with Jesse Shatkin, Stefan Johnson, Jordan K. Johnson, Oliver Peterhof, and Mozella. The single sees the singer reflect on a past romance, singing: “I miss looking at you sideways / Face to face with your lips on mine / And our legs on the pillowcase / Sideways…” in the sultry lyrics. The smooth mid-tempo pop production comes from The Monsters & Strangerz, Jesse Shatkin, and German.
ZAYN shares: “It’s that time again, I have been lucky enough to make a fifth studio album.” He continues: “Konnakol in its definition is the act of creating percussive sounds with one’s voice but what it means to me lies somewhere much deeper. It is a sound that holds the reverberation of a time before words existed. I have always drawn on my heritage for inspiration since I first started making my own music; this album is a development of that understanding, knowing more now than ever who I am, where I come from, and where I intend to go.”
Album release notes are quick to compare the sound of KONNAKOL to that of ZAYN’s debut album, Mind of Mine. The accompanying message shares: “KONNAKOL, ZAYN’s fifth studio album, is his most culturally inspired project to date. The pop-forward album expands on the sound fans first heard on his record-breaking debut studio album, Mind of Mine. KONNAKOL in its definition is the act of creating percussive sounds with one’s voice but what it means to ZAYN lies somewhere much deeper. It is a sound that holds the reverberation of a time before words existed. Drawing on his own heritage for inspiration, this album is a development of that understanding, knowing more now than ever who he is, where he comes from and where he intends to go.”
