French dance music icon Ysa Ferrer recently dropped her album La fée qui cloche which showcased the star’s pop versatility in a number of original tracks and remixes. Whilst showcasing darker pop flavours throughout the album, and its accompanying visuals – including the recently dropped video for the title track – Ysa turns to something lighter with her cover of L’été indien (‘Indian Summer’)
Ysa shared: “The story of my cover of Joe Dassin’s “Indian Summer”… a tribute that I wanted to be as authentic as possible, without distorting this iconic hit. Like a response from this beloved woman, 50 years later, with the same words, a universal love that resonates with everyone. I wanted to please myself, but above all, to please you.” [Translation]
The original L’été indien was a #1 hit in France for Joe Dassin – the best selling single of 1975 in the country. Ysa’s cover is impressively faithful, but her vocal style somewhat differs to Dassin’s more conversational sound. Ysa also accompanies her version with a Club Mix and Extended Club Mix, keeping fans of her more dance-driven output happy.
