Troye Sivan recently revealed the details of his upcoming studio album She’s the Best, accompanying the news with the release of the title track as its lead single. Now he returns with the Ian McKellen-assisted, Madonna-sampling new track Party. Bringing medieval aesthetics together with ’90s house beats and a sample of Madonna’s Music, Party is a treat from the Aussie star.
Troye wanted Party to capture the feeling of a night that keeps going – from one location to the next, with no real beginning or end. He shares “Dance music sounds very different on a dance floor than it does coming out of your laptop speaker. The repetition becomes almost hypnotic, and I wanted to play with structure in that way.”
The accompanying video directed by Gordon von Steiner is a period romp filmed at a castle in Berkeley, putting a queer spin on the historical epic. Safe to say Troye is a fan of recent queer historical drama William and Mary.
