The Rolling Stones delighted fans with their return to recorded music through their Hackney Diamonds album in 2023. The set was enough to light a creative spark for the band, who headed back into the studio once again to record their upcoming twenty-fifth studio album, Foreign Tongues. The band have dropped two songs from the set, In the Stars and Rough and Twisted.
Speaking about the recording process, Mick Jagger says: “I love doing these recording sessions in London at Metropolis. It was a very intense few weeks recording Foreign Tongues. We had 14 great tracks and we went as fast as we could. I like the room there as it’s not too big, so you can feel the passion in the room from everyone.”
In the Stars is a real earworm that takes the classic Stones sound and plants it firmly in 2026, combining classic rock and roll with huge hook-filled production from Andrew Watt. The track was penned by Keith Richards and Mick Jagger, as was Rough and Twisted. The latter was released under the pseudonym The Cockroaches in a limited run of 1,000 copies.
Keith Richards adds: “The Foreign Tongues album has a continuity from Hackney Diamonds and it was great to be working in London again, and to have that London vibe around us. It was a month of concentrated punch. To me, it’s all about the enjoyment of it. I’m blessed to be able to do this and long may it last.”
Ronnie Wood commented: “The atmosphere in the room was so creative, and the whole band was on top form throughout the entire process. Very often we nailed it on the first take. I hope everyone loves it.”
Foreign Tongues is set to be released on July 10th.
