Swedish Pop Superstar Agnes Drops Powerhouse Pop Hit ‘EGO’

Following on from her atmospheric pop bangers Balenciaga Covered Eyes and Milk, Swedish pop royalty Agnes returns with brand new track EGO. The star continues the road to her upcoming studio album, which looks set to follow classics Magic Still Exists and fan-favourite Veritas.

On EGO, Agnes shares: “EGO is inspired by conversations about self-discovery and Eckhart Tolle’s lyrics about the ego. I wanted to capture the feeling that it is only when we dare to let go of control that life can surprise us.” In this creative journey, the Release Me hitmaker let herself be guided by the lyrics of the track instead of the melodies, noting: “Letting the lyrics take the lead opened up new worlds and allowed new types of songs to emerge. I’ve really enjoyed digging into the words, and it has also enabled me to experiment even more with my voice than ever before.”

The number pairs euphoric synths, with an eighties-inspired pulsating production on which Agnes’s silky smooth vocals glide across. As always with Agnes, expect big choruses and delicious imagery and plenty of food for thought in the song, flexing her skills as the queen of spiritual disco.

The upcoming album found a source of inspiration in Irish alt-pop goddess Róisín Murphy and the art work of Mark Rothko, with Agnes seeking to capture something raw and truly authentic in the set: ‘This time, I wanted everything to be more naked and direct. Instead of building layer upon layer in the production, I wanted to let each element have its space – it should feel rawer and less polished.’

Gathering an all-star level team of songwriters and producers: Kerstin Ljungström, Vincent Pontare, Salem Al Fakir, Magnus Lidehäll, Alex Aris and British songwriter Hanna Wilson, Agnes is gearing up to reveal something truly special in the upcoming album.

We’ll have more details on Agnes’s upcoming LP as we have them. In the meantime, you can stream EGO above.
