Sam Palladio Unveils Late-Night Groover ‘Midnight Chess Club’

Sam Palladio

Sam Palladio has been impressing with his recent output, including Burberry Jacket and Glitter, showcasing personal songwriting atop absorbing indie-pop production. Sam’s latest single is Midnight Chess Club, a polished pop cut that captures woozy late-night connections.

It was written by Sam alongside Jake Ohlbaum and Julia Bullock, with production from Sam and Jake that invokes the instrumentals of bands like The 1975 and The Band CAMINO. Lyrically, the song is a celebration of the world’s outsiders, unconventional love, and conversations that hit like a drug. Sam drew inspiration from late-night games, past relationships and the sense of growing up feeling like something of an outsider.

Midnight Chess Club is a breezy late-night groover that slowly pulls you into its cosy dimly lit world, with a welcoming vocal from Sam and truly inviting production. The musical equivalent of being reunited with an old friend and feeling like your connection is still just as strong!

Sam shares: It’s a song for those that don’t fit the mould. For those that look for love in unconventional places. For the outsiders that choose to do things differently. It’s about wanting to escape to a place where the simplicity of being with someone, being yourself and where the “conversation hits like a drug”, is all you need. Love can be a wild game, but it can also be a thought-provoking, intentional and challengingly deep game of chess.

He continues: I grew up loving late-night board games, model making, real connections and quality time with loved ones. I was always a bit of an outsider and a nerd growing up, so I wanted to write a song that celebrated those parts of myself and create a space where everyone is welcome at the Midnight Chess Club.
