The Rolling Stones delighted fans with their return to recorded music through their Hackney Diamonds album in 2023. The set was enough to light a creative spark for the band, who headed back into the studio once again to record their upcoming twenty-fifth studio album, Foreign Tongues. The band have dropped two songs from the set, In the Stars and Rough and Twisted, and now the rock icons return with two new tracks, Jealous Lover and Divine Intervention.
Jealous Lover arrives accompanied by a music video starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Charles Melton. The track is a classic blues-driven Stones number that sees the band croon: “Hands off, jealous lover / Please let me be / Your eyes full of envy / And you’re emerald green.”
Divine Intervention is one of two tracks on the record to feature The Cure frontman Robert Smith.
Speaking about the recording process, Mick Jagger says: “I love doing these recording sessions in London at Metropolis. It was a very intense few weeks recording Foreign Tongues. We had 14 great tracks and we went as fast as we could. I like the room there as it’s not too big, so you can feel the passion in the room from everyone.”
Keith Richards adds: “The Foreign Tongues album has continuity from Hackney Diamonds, and it was great to be working in London again, and to have that London vibe around us. It was a month of concentrated punch. To me, it’s all about the enjoyment of it. I’m blessed to be able to do this and long may it last.”
Ronnie Wood commented: “The atmosphere in the room was so creative, and the whole band was on top form throughout the entire process. Very often we nailed it on the first take. I hope everyone loves it.”
