Rising French Musician Aurel Explores Escape and Freedom on 'Là-Bas'

French singer-songwriter Aurel releases his latest single Là-Bas, giving us another taste of his upcoming studio album Tant qu’on aura pied, expected this September. The musician combines electronic textures with gently absorbing vocals across his compositions, including Almasty, Briller dans le Soleil, and Plus de batterie.

Delving into the inspiration behind his latest single, Aurel notes: “Over the past few years, I’ve seen many people close to me go through these kinds of questions. Even though the subject is deep, I wanted the melodies and arrangements to feel sunny, like an outstretched hand, a source of hope in difficult moments, to give momentum to those who need it.”

The track taps into themes of freedom and feeling trapped, whether that be from a relationship, job, or more generally in life. It explores the question of whether we should stay to preserve what we have or leave in order to remain alive inside. The song is soundtracked with soft electronic arrangements, allowing Aurel’s vocals to shine and gently absorb the listener.

Aurel accompanies the track with a video inventively shot using the reflection of a car mirror in the countryside. “In the video, I’m running the whole time. Maybe trying to catch up with someone? Or maybe running away from myself?”

Aurel reflects: “During the shooting of the final long take, I fell into a small ditch alongside the road. I had to climb back up through nettles and brambles before immediately starting to run again. It wasn’t planned, but in the end it perfectly tells what Là-Bas is about: falling, getting back up, and carrying on anyway.”
