Omar Rudberg releases one of his most personal songs yet with the emotional A World Like This. The track is expected to close Omar’s upcoming studio album, with the cover artwork suggesting the record will feature twelve songs.
Omar co-wrote the song with its producer, Karl Ivert, and releases it through his long-time label, TEN Records. Backed by a gentle melody, the autobiographical pop track explores Omar’s relationship with his mother and his move from Venezuela to Sweden.
The opening verse sees the musician and actor sing: “I was born in Venezuela, I was a happy kid / But then my mother and I moved to another country / She got a man, she did it all for me / So I helped my mother to write her emails in Swedish / She didn’t speak it, neither did I / Lost my mother language / Was called a gringo while I’m Latino, but sometimes I’m not…”
In terms of delivery, A World Like This bears some resemblance to Suzanne Vega’s Tom’s Diner, marking an interesting musical shift for Omar.
Omar shared on Instagram: “After a few months of no new music releases, but writing in the studio with my friend, producer and co-writer Karl Ivert, I had the luxury of time, and for the first time I felt like I could open up. This song is a biographical song of me. I’m letting you come closer and get to know me a bit more. The first look of my new album. It’s personal because I’ve writing all of it. I hope you enjoy the journey! My new single A World Like This out on Friday.” He adds: “A World Like This. First single of the year and it’s the most personal. It’s a biographical song about me, and track number 12 of my new album. Espero que mis sueños no me fallen…”
