Natalie Imbruglia Releases 'Upside Down', Unveils 'Algorithm' Album Details

Aussie pop legend Natalie Imbruglia wastes no time following up her acclaimed Firebird album, with new LP Algorithm scheduled for September 4th. The Shiver hitmaker releases lead single from the project Upside Down, a melodic-pop and synth-driven treat inspired by battling fight or flight emotions.

On the Algorithm album, Natalie shares: “On this record I chose to work with collaborators who also co-produce so from start to finish we were all so invested in every song. I really hope that people get as much joy from listening to this record as we did making it. And that they dance their arses off.” She continues: “This was by far the most fun I’ve ever had making a record. It also happened to coincide with the most challenging time I’ve had with my mental health. This is the beauty of music and artistic expression. You can take something dark and turn it into light.”

On the lead single, Natalie works with co-writes David Sneddon and Anu Pillai, with production from Natalie and Anu. The musician shares: “The inability to control my emotions, wrestling with fight or flight mode, was awful, and I was reaching this critical point with it. In a way, the song is about how sheer willpower – trying to force your way out of something – doesn’t always work. You need tools, support. So that’s where the song was born from, that fight to maintain a semblance of what some might consider normality.”

On the upcoming album, Natalie collaborates with a range of industry names including: MyRiot (London Grammar), David Sneddon (Lana Del Rey, Hurts), Fraser T Smith (Adele, Dave, Stormzy, Sam Smith), Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody, Anu Pillai (Lewis Capaldi, Declan J Donovan), Tobie Tripp (George Ezra), Mark Crew (Bastille, James Arthur) and Dan Priddy (Rag’n’Bone Man, Bastille).
