Elite stars Manu Ríos and Arón Piper are reunited for the third time in Johnny Depp thriller Day Drinker. The pair previously starred in the raunchy Spanish prep school thriller Elite on Netflix, re-teaming in crime drama Muted (El Silencio). Now the stars take to the screen again in supporting roles in Day Drinker, which also stars Penélope Cruz.
The Marc Webb-directed feature’s official synopsis notes: In Day Drinker, a private-yacht bartender (Madelyn Cline) encounters a mysterious, onboard guest (Johnny Depp). They soon find themselves entangled with a criminal figure (Penélope Cruz) and connected in ways no one saw coming.
Arón Piper and Manu Ríos play the Lorenzo brothers, who are the sons of Cara Lazaro (played by Penélope Cruz), the film’s dangerous underworld criminal figure. Arón has shared in interviews that his character Rafe is the more likeable of the brothers, whilst Manu plays Floren, the more intense sibling.
Arón is fresh from leading Hugo 24, directed by Luc Knowles. The project is an intense Spanish drama that takes place entirely over a single day – the 24th birthday of Piper’s title character. He and his best friend face a desperate, ticking-clock race against time to raise enough cash to pay overdue rent and prevent his family’s eviction.
