Joseph Reuben Explores Identity and Heartbreak on ‘Chasing Ghosts’ EP

We’ve previously featured the talented Joseph Reuben on the site a number of times, with our ears drawn to his striking cinematic compositions and transporting vocals. Joseph now releases his debut EP, Chasing Ghosts, part one of a two-part series, spearheaded by the absorbing title track and previous singles Sugar & Caffeine and Everybody Knows It!.

Joseph Reuben shares: “I was living between New York City, Los Angeles and London while making this record. After losing my voice, I had to rebuild it, and for the first time, use it honestly. It became a way of saying everything I needed to.” The musician added on social media: “This project began seven years ago in LA, and whilst I didn’t know it then, these songs have been a perfect reflection of where I am in life. Learning to let go of people, expectations, and versions of myself I’ve outgrown.”

The five-track set centres on reflections of identity, heartbreak and coming to terms with his sexuality. Despite luring listeners in with airy, euphoric qualities, the project also explores themes of escapism, depression and the small rituals that lift us from darker moments.

The visuals for the EP were crafted by British fashion photographer GarçonJon.
