Interview: Ukrainian Singer Denis Rekonvald on His 'Demons', European Success & Life in the US

Denis Rekonvald has been entertaining us for many years now, with the Ukrainian star shining as a singer-songwriter, actor, and all-round creative. The musician has given us hits such as Alter Ego, Fetish and White Nights, and now he returns with a brand new dark pop classic, Demons. The track is an incredible continuation of Denis’s brooding, elegant pop sound and a welcome return for the star, who has not released music in three years. Denis sat down with the site’s editor, Andrew, to chat about his impressive career so far and what we can expect in the future.

Among the many topics covered in the long-form interview, Denis explored some of the ideas behind Demons and teased some of the themes we could expect from the upcoming music video. Denis shared how the creative process for the track worked and how he will always have support from his grandmother.

Now living in the US, Denis spoke about his earlier career in the world of television in Ukraine, sharing behind the scenes of working on the music competition I Want to Join Meladze, his background as a successful dancer, and starring in the feature film Let’s Dance. The musician also explores some of his previous hits and discusses his feelings on a number of his successful singles.

Denis discusses his initial links with Ukraine’s music competition Vidbir, and how his English version of the single Alter Ego was recorded as an entry for the contest.

Getting to know Denis more, he shares some of the differences between life in the US and Ukraine, and his favourite things to do to unwind and relax.
