We were delighted to sit down with one of our favourite groups, The Elevator Boys to chat all things film and music. Culture Fix editor Andrew sat down with Bene Schulz, Jacob Rott, Julien Brown, Luis Freitag and Tim Schaecker to discuss their jump to the big screen in their debut feature film, Back to the 90s, and their impressive music career.
Back to the 90s, now streaming on Amazon Prime, sees the boys’ characters travel back to the nineties, with the film mixing strong performances, humour and music to create a unique fusion that feels very much true to The Elevator Boys. The group chatted to Andrew about their first reaction upon reading the script, shooting the film in picturesque Malta and connecting with their characters. Of course, we also had to chat about the experience of watching the film for the first time as a group and its big-screen premiere.
Back to the 90s sees The Elevator Boys record a track penned by Gary Barlow, and in our interview, the band share his influence on their work. We also chat about the group’s music releases, from the experience of working with top Swedish production teams to shooting the video for their latest single, Love Me Better, in the Nevada desert. The group reveal their favourite tracks from their own catalogue and discuss future music plans, as well as some of their massive performances, including performing at Capital’s Summertime Ball back in 2023 and supporting the legendary Helene Fischer this year.
We get to know The Elevator Boys’ personal tastes when it comes to films and music, as well as seeing the guys take part in our quick-fire round at the end of the interview.
Thanks to Bene, Jacob, Julien, Luis and Tim for taking the time to chat, as well as their team for organising. You can connect with The Elevator Boys here. Back to the 90s is streaming on Amazon Prime.
