Culture Fix was delighted to catch up with the brilliant Finnish star Robin Packalen, who is celebrating the release of his latest single, Running Through My Head. Robin sat down with Culture Fix’s editor, Andrew, to chat about the story behind the track, revisiting his classic hits, and his future music plans.
Robin discusses his excitement about his new English-language single and the challenges of incorporating t.A.T.u.’s All the Things She Said into the track. The musician also reflects on his plans going forward for international music, discussing a scrapped album that didn’t quite feel like him. Of course, we couldn’t discuss Robin’s English-language releases without exploring his brilliant conceptual EPs, Rest in Beat PM and AM, with Robin revealing the ambitious plans behind the project. Robin also talks working with Alan Walker and the magnitude of taking to various global stages as part of the Walkerworld tour.
The Finnish star opens up about the experience of revisiting some of his biggest hits – including Boom Kah and Paperilennokki – for his recent 2.0 project, which proved to be an unexpected challenge. Robin also looks back at his earliest moments in the industry, marking the first steps of a career that has been shining since 2008.
With the Eurovision Song Contest just passing, Robin and Andrew reflect on Finland’s growing prominence in the contest thanks to stars like Käärijä and Erika Vikman, as well as the entertainment spectacle that UMK has become. We reflect on Robin’s underrated Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2023 entry, Girls Like You, and whether he might be tempted to enter again to try to represent Finland at Eurovision.
Thanks to Robin for taking the time to chat and his team for organising. You can follow him on: Instagram / Spotify / YouTube / Facebook / X
