Singer-songwriter Benjamin Steer is currently impressing with the thoughtful pop of his new EP Be My Love, featuring anthemic tracks including Miracle, Trophy and its attention-grabbing title track. Benjamin sat down with Culture Fix’s Andrew for an interview that digs into the stories behind his new music and teases what we can expect from his upcoming Not So Nonchalant Tour.
Benjamin discusses the transition from studying in St Andrews to navigating a successful music career, which has resulted in EPs such as Figuring It Out, Homesick and Be My Love. He also dives into songs such as No One Wants to Die Alone, where he taps into feelings of angst, uncertainty and the pursuit of love, while presenting lyrical food for thought and a melody that hooks listeners in.
Elsewhere in the interview, Benjamin explores new thematic territory with the dangerous romance of Trophy, a track that has quickly become a firm live favourite. He also shares the story behind the deeply personal track Judas, which saw him turn anger and heartbreak into musical catharsis.
The musician takes to the road across the UK and Europe in May, discussing the different vibes of each city and the feel-good atmosphere he aims to create in a live setting. Benjamin also chats about digging into the data, exploring the statistics behind the music.
