The return of A*Teens feels like a momentous occasion in the world of pop music, with the Swedish four-piece once again sitting at the top of the charts with their brand new single Iconic. The track is also competing in Sweden’s prestigious Melodifestivalen, with the group set to return to the contest’s final on 7 March in Stockholm. To celebrate their comeback, Culture Fix’s Andrew sat down with the group to chat about all things Iconic and reflect on the band’s legacy.
The band spoke about preparing for the Melodifestivalen final and how they are truly in it to win it, with Dhani and Marie even calling in from rehearsals. Sara, Amit, Dhani and Marie shared how the intricate, show-stopping staging of Iconic came together, as well as their first impressions upon hearing the track, which fuses A*Teens’ classic feel-good pop with contemporary production and a modern edge. The group reflect on the highs of hitting #1 in the Swedish charts and returning to the UK’s official single sales chart.
A*Teens also opened up about how much they are loving being back together, not to mention the joy and positivity both they and their fans are feeling. While the band admit they are determined to win Melodifestivalen, they acknowledge that this is the first hurdle before they can truly think about the ultimate prize of Eurovision. Looking ahead, the question of new music naturally arises. Could a new A*Teens album or more singles be on the horizon? Amit shares insight into the group’s future music plans.
Stick around until the end of the interview to discover more about the fun dynamics within A*Teens, as the group take part in our quick-fire quiz in the closing moments.
