Alex Sampson has gone from strength to strength in recent years, asserting himself as one of the most exciting singer-songwriters thanks to hits such as Misery, Pretty Baby and Blind. Now, Alex has a brand new EP on the horizon, Growing Pains, and sat down with Culture Fix editor Andrew to chat about the upcoming project and his music career so far.
The musician chats about drawing inspiration for the EP from recording in the natural surroundings of Canada, as well as the experiences that inspired the recording of recent single Misery. Alex delves into the themes he sought to explore on the EP Growing Pains, including growing up, heartbreak, loss and the various directions life pulls us in. He also discusses drawing inspiration from the emotions of live crowds during his recent headline tour, which sparked his creativity when it came to songwriting and recording.
Alex also delves into the story behind one of his favourite new tracks, including a song inspired by his relationship titled How Lucky Am I, which he releases today. He discusses the story behind the song and how the track sees him explore more experimental sounds.
