Heidi Montag Embraces Capitalist Excess On New Single ‘Spend It’

Fresh from dropping her behind-the-scenes documentary for her Neon Skies set, hyperpop goddess Heidi Montag releases her new single Spend It. The track marks Heidi’s first single since the release of her album Masterpiece back in May.

On Spend It, Heidi works with Cedric de Saint-Rome, Asia Smith, Kevin Yancey and Grace Meredith, with electropop production from Housefly and Sophie Rose. Featuring hypnotic lyrics and Heidi’s intoxicating autotuned vocals, the star purrs: “Never tell me no, yes, I’m in control / I get anything I want, you know what to do / If I see it, yeah, come buy it / Expensive, I like it / I want it, come buy it.”

The lyrics present a minimalist exploration of capitalist excess, conspicuous consumption, authoritarian personal agency and the psychologically liberating, yet ultimately existentially hollow, pursuit of immediate gratification through the accelerated ritualisation of spending. Or maybe they’re just about flashing the cash?
