Delta Goodrem continues her journey towards her upcoming album Pure with new single Warrior. The track follows the ABBA-inspired dance-pop gem Hologram and Delta’s Eurovision Song Contest smash Eclipse. Warrior is an empowering pop anthem that sees Delta deliver huge vocals over soaring production from Michael Fatkin and Matthew Copley.
Delta shared: “Warrior is out now everywhere! It’s been so special to introduce you to the song at our intimate Prelude shows around the world. It took on a life of its own when I thought I was just sharing with you a song that was meaning a lot to me. Turns out it means something to you too!”
Warrior is written by Delta alongside Matthew Copley and Geoff Duncan. The lyrics centre on perseverance, resilience and strength, with Delta soaring as she sings: “Ooh, I’m a fighter / I rise like a flame from the fire / I’m like a bird going higher, going higher / I conquer it all / Ooh, I’m a lion / I’m strong and I’m fierce, a survivor / Can’t change the past, but I’m wiser, I’m wiser / I conquer it all / A warrior.”
Speaking about the meaning behind the track, Delta shared: “To me, ‘Warrior’ is about the strength you collect along the way. You can’t change the past, but you can recognise what it taught you and step into the next chapter a little stronger, a little fiercer and hopefully a lot wiser.”
She continues: “I think when we’re younger, we imagine strength means never falling apart. With time, we learn that it’s actually about taking the lesson with you and continuing to move forward. ‘Warrior’ is about honouring every version of yourself: the hero, the villain, the fearless one and the frightened one, and realising they all helped make you who you are.”
Warrior has become a fixture of Delta’s recent live performances, having even featured as part of her performance at the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony in Glasgow.
The sixteen-track album Pure arrives on 5 November, although the full tracklist has yet to be confirmed.
