Interview: Writer-Director Adam Kalderon (@adamkalderon) Talks New Smoulderingly Tense Gay Israeli Drama 'The Swimmer' - Coming next week from @peccapics

We sat down (virtually) with filmmaker Adam Kalderon who brought his feature The Swimmer to the BFI Flare Festival. Adam shared lots of interesting anecdotes about the construction of the film and the inspiration of his own experiences on the narrative.

The Swimmer presents a glimpse into the homophobia within the world of competitive sport. Kalderon draws inspiration from his own story as a competitive swimmer in his native Israel for the feature which captures repression of one’s identity amidst smouldering sexual tension within claustrophobic, toxic surroundings. The Swimmer simultaneously presents an uplifting story of self-expression and authenticity. Paired with strikingly colourful aesthetics, an energetic score, and compelling performances from Omer Perelman Striks and Asaf Jonas.

We had the pleasure of chatting with Italian musical icon Achille Lauro about stepping onto the Eurovision Song Contest stage in Turin with his powerful entry Stripper. The musician soared to victory during San Marino’s Una Voce per San Marino with the song which has quickly become one of the contest’s most talked about tracks.

Achille shared details about Stripper’s power as a manifesto of freedom, the importance of making music without adhering to genres and labels, and the choice to bring English language into the track. Achille also delved into why he is enjoying the 2022 entries and the power of fashion as a means of projecting ‘the soul of the song.’

Achille took to the stage on Thursday 12th of May with Stripper in the second Eurovision Song Contest semi-final.

It was a pleasure to chat to Krystian Ochman who represents Poland in Turn at the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest. Krystian has had an interesting journey from the US to winning The Voice of Poland in 2020, and now this journey features a trip to Italy in May 2022 where he will delights fans with his ESC entry River.

Krystian emerged victorious in Polish national final Tu bije serce Europy! Wybieramy hit na Eurowizję with River, written by himself, Ashley Hicklin, Adam Wiśniewski, and Mikołaj Trybulec. We found out about how Krystian will be preparing for the contest, the meaning behind his powerful entry, and his potential plans for more English language music.
