Trailer: Sarah Paulson Leads Horror ‘Run’

There’s a hint of What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? in the trailer for Sarah Paulson led Hagsploitation flick Run. Hitting US cinemas on May 8th (no UK release date as of yet), Run sees Paulson star as a mother with a frighteningly intense relationship with her wheelchair-bound daughter. Lionsgate’s full synopsis notes:

“They say you can never escape a mother’s love… but for Chloe, that’s not a comfort — it’s a threat. There’s something unnatural, even sinister about the relationship between Chloe (newcomer Kiera Allen) and her mom, Diane (Sarah Paulson). Diane has raised her daughter in total isolation, controlling every move she’s made since birth, and there are secrets that Chloe’s only beginning to grasp. From the visionary writers, producers and director of the breakout film Searching, comes a suspense thriller that shows that when mom gets a little too close, you need to RUN.”

The housebound/wheelchair element, intense family dynamics give this a little flavour of Joan Crawford and Bette Davis classic Baby Jane, whilst there are echoes of the psycho-biddy horror subgenre pulsing throughout this – see What Ever Happened to Aunt Alice?, What’s the Matter with Helen? and I Saw What You Did. We’re excited to see the iconic Sarah Paulson join the legion of legendary psycho-biddies!
