Trailer: Jessica Alba in ‘The Veil’

Maybe it’s been so long since we’ve seen a good horror film and we’re just feeling a little starved of decent genre fare, but The Veil actually looks quite okay.

The project sees Jessica Alba, Thomas Jane and Lily Rabe team-up with director Phil Joanou – the man behind recent Punisher short Dirty Laundry.

The Veil is set thirty years after members of a religious cult committed mass suicide, and follows a lone survivor who returns to the scene of the tragedy with a documentary crew.

The idea of cults and mass suicide was executed in masterfully macabre fashion by Ti West in The Sacrament, so The Veil might have some tough shoes to fill – nonetheless it looks like quite a tense little surprise. Plus how retro does it feel seeing one of the prime scream queens of the noughties Jessica Alba back in the genre? Somebody convince Sarah Michelle Gellar to come back into the fold next.

The Veil hits VOD on February 2nd.
