So Adam Wingard’s (Your Next, The Guest) latest film The Woods, has just thrown a curveball on us and revealed its true self as a sequel to iconic nineties horror, The Blair Witch Project. Opting for the simple title of Blair Witch, Wingard’s film looks set to ignore the films previous sequel, Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 (we wonder why?)
We don’t want to be naysayers, because we are as excited as the rest of you about a decent follow-up to one of the most terrifying films of all time – but the trailer has not spooked us too much. It’s all a little too fast paced and noisy for us just now, especially when the first film found its thrills and horror in quiet unease and slow-building dread. However, Wingard’s work speaks for itself and we are convinced that our concerns will turn out to be nothing.
Blair Witch hits cinemas September 16th.
