French musician Yoann Casanova released his debut album in October 2023, with the LP an impressive showcase for the talents of the rising musician. Since releasing his album ARIA, Yoann has taken a musical pause – but this comes to an end with the release of his new track Sleepless – the first single from his upcoming new album ELECTRA.
Sleepless marks a sonic change for the musician, verging more into the a more pop-rock centred direction – and fortunately for English language fans of the star, a track in the language. Yoann creates the number with Philippine Zadéo, with the single channelling a punky-pop that feels inspired by acts such as Lenny Kravitz.
Yoann shared a statement on his socials, giving some context regarding the release of Sleepless. The translation reads: “Since the release of my first album (October 2023), I pressed PAUSE. I questioned a lot of things because after nearly 10 years of experiences in the French music scene, I truly came face to face with all the challenges of being an independent artist today. However, I’m very happy and proud to carry almost all of my projects on my own, knowing how titanic the workload is. That said, several small accumulated details triggered some insomnia in me — and I’m someone who supposedly has the gene of a heavy sleeper, immune to sleep issues…”
He continues: “To be honest, I felt like I had spent years working for nothing. I’ve lived and learned so much through music over the years, but in the end, I felt like it had all been for nothing — like it was all just hot air, and that all my efforts and sacrifices were in vain. In short, what I want to tell you is that I really needed to press PAUSE. Today, I know I needed it more than I realized, because I feel different. I haven’t changed, but I feel like I’ve improved — or at least, I feel closer to who I really am. I’ve let go of a lot of things I may have been clinging to too tightly. I’ve gained perspective on some of the situations I’ve experienced, and what I can tell you is that sometimes it really does feel good to just not care too much every now and then.”
