Vienna State Opera star Johannes ‘JJ’ Pietsch releases his commanding Eurovision Song Contest 2025 entry, with the young talent potentially on the horizon to bring the music contest back to Austria with his compelling anthem Wasted Love. The rising musician showcases his asserting operatic countertenor and male soprano vocal skills on the number which is set to be one of the most memorable of those performed in Basel.
Blending operatic flavours with contemporary electronic pop with producers Pele Loriano and Thomas Thurner, Wasted Love is a truly original piece that is likely to command audience attention in a live setting. With an experimental flavour running through it, JJ’s triumphant vocal fuses with the pulsating electronic beats crafting an intoxicating combination.
JJ shares: “This song perfectly captures my experience with unreciprocated love. There’s a unique kind of heartbreak in having so much love to give but nowhere for it to land. It feels like being adrift at sea on a fragile paper boat; grasping at any sliver of hope, only to watch it dissolve beneath you. And yet, there’s something undeniably beautiful in that naïve devotion. Because, in the end, simply being able to love – no matter how wasted – is a beautiful thing in itself.”
