Oliver Adelborg, known as ‘Adel the Second’, may have finished third in Saturday’s Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2025, but The Unluckiest Boy Alive singer may well have won himself a ticket to stardom.

With eight acts competing to follow up last year’s Danish Eurovision entry Sand by Saba, Adel finished third in the super-final behind Tim Schou’s Proud and winner Sissal’s Hallucination.

Little was known about Adel prior to the announcement of competing acts, with The Unluckiest Boy Alive being his debut single. Written by Adel himself and produced by Søren Christensen, the quirky pop anthem quickly gained attention and popularity ahead of Saturday’s final.

With opening lines of “Isn’t it awful what’s happening to me, only awful things happen, seemingly”, the melancholic lyrics are offset by a rousing pop melody, producing an incredible ‘sad banger’ that even Robyn would have been proud of. While the song is unbelievably catchy, Adel’s inspired performance with backing dancers is equally captivating, with camp and flamboyance reminiscent of early Mika releases.

Following his incredible performance, we have had The Unluckiest Boy Alive on repeat and are sure this would have been a hit with Eurovision audiences. Given this is only Adel’s debut, we are excited to see what future releases have in store as he emerges as one of Europe’s most exciting new pop talents.
