British singer-songwriter Tom Grennan unveils a new direction in his sound with a danceable, disco-soul infused banger Higher. Tom cites Prince, George Michael and Freddy Mercury as influences on the sound of his upcoming fourth album.
Tom shares: “The weird thing about me is that I make music in the studio but most of my good ideas come to me when I’m not actually in the studio,” He continues: “On the day we wrote ‘Higher’ I’d left the room but I just couldn’t get that riff out of my head. It turned into a melody, which turned into a phrase… I ran back into the studio, with the piano riff still playing, threw my hands up and sang: ‘It’s taking me higher‘ Everyone in the room just went: ‘Boom. That’s it’.”
Higher is an uplifting new sound for Grennan, who retains his natural vocal charm and starry charisma on the new track. On what fans can expect from his new album, Tom shares: “So much of the new music is uplifting – it makes you dance, makes you sing – but for me, there’s also the excitement of it being a sound I’ve never explored.”
Tom has been working with songwriter and producer Justin Tranter on some of the new music, sharing that the US talent“understood exactly what he wanted to say and what he wanted to sound like.” On Higher specifically Tom co-writes with CASTLE, Connor McDonough, Riley McDonough, Ryan Daly, and Toby McDonough.
