Kim Wilde returns with details of her new studio album Closer, which the UK pop talent describes as a follow-up to her seminal 1988 album Close. Whilst the new album is not available until the 31st of January 2025, Kim has thankfully given us our first taste in new single Trail of Destruction.
Talking of Trail of Destruction, Kim explains: “I wanted a connection to ‘Stone’ from my Close album in 1988 as well as referencing Jack Black’s 60’s referencing “Sticking it to the man’ speech from School Of Rock. ‘Stone’ was a protest about the ‘man’ taking ownership of our planet and not keeping their promises to stop messing it up. Trail Of Destruction is a protest for a new generation.”
The track sees the Never Trust a Stranger hitmaker collaborate with a crack team including Darren Gilbert, Ricky Wilde and Scarlett Wilde on the number. The tracklist for the new LP also boasts collaborations with 80s legend Midge Ure and a duet with Scarlett.
Cherry Red who will be releasing the album next year, share: “‘Closer’ is the follow-up to Kim Wilde’s massively successful 1988 album ‘Close’. While it captures the spirit and style of her earlier work, this new album introduces a modern perspective, blending nostalgic elements with contemporary sounds. Kim Wilde’s signature mix of pop, new wave, and rock—known for its infectious hooks, powerful vocals, and anthemic choruses—remains at the heart of her music, ensuring ‘Closer’ will resonate with both longtime fans and new audiences.”
