Sophie Ellis-Bextor launches us into her next album era with Wuh Oh collaboration Hypnotized. Written by Peter Ferguson and Sophie, with production from Wuh Oh and Sega Bodega, the track is the sort of icy club banger that Sophie does so well.
Opening with the track’s chorus of “You always knew how to creep into my head / Always finding ways to sleep in my bed / You have always kept me hypnotized…” Hypnotized feels like the sort of Sophie anthem that you would expect to hear on her classic albums Trip the Light Fantastic or Make a Scene, geared slightly more towards the dancefloor than her previous studio albums Wanderlust and Familia.
Whether Hypnotized will actually feature on Sophie’s long-awaited new studio LP is unclear. She has completed numerous sessions with regular collaborator Ed Harcourt, and whether this fits the sound that they have been creating is anyone’s guess at the moment. Either way Hypnotized is a great way to tide us over until we have more news. The album is expected later this year.
