RuPaul is taking forward a more traditional release strategy with her upcoming fourteenth album MAMARU. The veteran queen normally announces the album drop a few days before its release yet here she gives us the single Blame It On the Edit and news that album will be arriving January 7th 2022.
Blame It On the Edit addresses the frequent criticisms by contestants on the Glamazon’s television series RuPaul’s Drag Race that they are unfavourably edited by producers. Working with Fredrick Mināno, Rupaul crafts slick understated electronic grooves before delivering a hypnotic vocal and earworming lyric. A description accompanying the official video notes: “Mama Ru claps back at past contestants who fancy a conspiracy theory.” She ain’t playing.
The track will be joined by nine others on the upcoming thirty-minute LP, including:
- Just What They Want
- Catwalk
- Smile
- Fascination
- Blame It On the Edit
- Who Is She
- Pretty Pretty Gang Gang
- Mother of the House
- Catwalk (Reprise)
- Queendom
