We’re always on the hunt for fresh Scandinavian pop – nobody does it better – so we were delighted when Frimann submitted his EP Last King Alive to us. The full six track set was released October 15th opens with an asserting introduction before launching into the glamorous slinky nu-disco of the title track.
Frimann tells us “‘Last King Alive’ is a disco-pop record filled with joyful and celebratory music. To me, this project is very exciting because it’s my first major release and also my debut as a producer (on a song called ‘Outside’).”
The title track is loaded with countless references to the world of disco from Diana Ross to Freddie Mercury, yet Frimann showcases his own musical identity atop the swanky beats and self-assured lyrics. R&B grooves come into platy for Endless Summer which features vocalist Marni, whilst Outside is an elegant uplifting ballad in which Frimann delivers an emotive vocal against stripped back yet rousing production. The dancefloor calls again for EP closer The Best Is Yet To Come, a celebratory dancepop release that pays to tribute to life’s positives from parties, records, future lovers and gorgeous men. Amen Frimann!
