Monarchy have been delighting us since we first heard their 2015 collaboration with Dita Von Teese, Disintegration, but their beginning goes back to 2009 where Andrew Armstrong and Ra Black formed the duo. Several EPs, albums and singles later, the British-Australian electronic pop duo have decided to call it a day – but give us a parting gift in their surprise final album SYZYGY.
On the duo’s official Twitter page they shared: “The clocks have struck 13 and we’ve decided to call it a day on Monarchy. There were a lot of different factors that went into the decision, and we’ve decided it’s best to now focus on our own projects individually. However, as we go our separate ways, we’d like to leave you with our last album. It’s called SYZYGY and is out now! We’d like to thank you for all the energy you’ve given back to us over the years. We had a blast.“
Whilst it is undeniably sad news, we are excited to see what the boys have in store. Andrew has already dropped music in the form of singles as Daddy Squad and an album as Prince Elliot. Ra is thought to be working on his own solo project.
Stream SYZYGY below. Thank you for the music Monarchy.
