The legendary Udo Kier takes the leading role in Swan Song, from writer-director Todd Stephens. Kier has been known for his blend of both menace and camp, which has made him an ideal casting choice from roles from Paul Morrissey’s Blood for Dracula and Flesh for Frankenstein and Gus Van Sant’s My Own Private Idaho to more recent supporting roles in contemporary B-Movies including Iron Sky and Puppet Master: The Littlest Reich. Thankfully Swan Song puts Kier where he belongs, front and centre. He is joined by a terrific ensemble of character acting talent including Jennifer Coolidge, Michael Urie and Dynasty icon Linda Evans.
The official synopsis reads: “SWAN SONG follows retired hairdresser and local bar performer icon Pat Pitsenbarger (Kier) who has given up on life from the confines of his small-town Sandusky, Ohio nursing home. But when Pat gets word that a former client’s dying wish was for him to style her final hairdo, he sets out on an epic journey across Sandusky to confront the ghosts of his past – and collect the beauty supplies necessary for the job. SWAN SONG is a comical and bittersweet journey about rediscovering oneself, and looking gorgeous while doing so.”
Reviews of Swan Song have been nothing short of glowing – particularly for KIer’s performance, so we have high hopes for this one. The feature will be in US theatres August 6 and on demand August 13.
